Film Screenings with Ethan Nopah (Dine)

June 22, 2025
11:00 am through 2:30 pm

Join us in watching films by Ethan Nopah (Diné) at 11am and 1pm, with an artist talk following the 1pm screening.

Ethan Nopah is a Navajo/Diné filmmaker and photographer who lives in New Mexico. In the realm of cinema, Ethan is interested in its intimate and contemplative natures within a slow-moving, minimalist framework.   During his time at the Institute of American Indian Arts, Ethan has received several awards and recognitions for his work as a student and artist. These include the Outstanding Student Film and Directing awards, and the Audience Award at the 11th Annual IAIA Student Filmmaker Showcase held in 2023. Additionally, Ethan was awarded the "Proven Storyteller" Scholarship from the George R.R. Martin Literary Foundation for a screenplay he had written. He was named the Student of the Year 2022–2023 at IAIA.   He graduated from IAIA in May 2024, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in the Cinematic Arts & Technology program and is seeking out graduate film programs to further hone his skills as a visual storyteller.   This program is in conjunction with Engaging the Future: The Goodman Fellowship Artists in the JoAnn and Bob Balzer Native Market and Contemporary Art Gallery. On view until September 1st.
